Overview
Ardoq's embedded AI features in the Business Value Streams (BVS) and Business Capability Modeling (BCM) Solutions are designed to help architecture teams move from a blank canvas to a structured, actionable model in minutes. These tools accelerate your ability to model how your organization delivers value, ensuring traceability from strategy to execution, while maintaining full governance through scenario-based workflows.
This guide will walk you through how to use each AI capability, from generating your initial value proposition to connecting value stream stages with business capabilities.
Getting Started
In order to access these AI features, you need to install the BVS, OM and BCM Solutions. You can fetch these from the Ardoq Solution Module or by reaching out to your Customer Success Manager. The augmentations rely on components or metamodel definitions from these solutions.
Ensure you have an Organization defined in the organization workspace. This is used in subsequent steps.
Once installed, navigate to the Solution under Ardoq Solutions, found on the left-hand side of the screen.
1. Generate a Value Proposition
The first step in creating a value stream model is defining the value your organization delivers.
Prerequisites:
An Organization component defined in the Organization workspace. This data is used by AI to generate a Value Proposition.
A Value Streams workspace from the Ardoq Solution Module that defines the metamodel for the Value Proposition component type.
How to do it:
In the BVS solution, select Generate Value Proposition under AI Augmentations.
If you have created an Organization component, the company name and description fields will already be populated. If you have not, either do so or fill out your company name and description manually.
Under the Settings tab, you can choose an alternative Value Streams Workspace for your Value Proposition. This would override the default workspace that is provided by the solution.
Under the Generate Asset tab, click Generate Value Proposition.
Review the generated value proposition. You can edit it directly in the text field or generate a new version by clicking Regenerate Value Proposition.
Click Generate Component.
View the newly created component in the workspace (optional).
What it does: Produces a tailored, outcome-oriented value proposition that centers your model around real business impact.
2. Generate a Value Stream
Next, use the generated value proposition as a launchpad to model the flow of value through your organization.
Prerequisites:
An Organization component defined in the Organization workspace.
A Value Proposition component defined in the Value Streams workspace.
A Value Streams workspace from the Ardoq Solution Module that defines the metamodel for the Value Stream and Value Stream Stage component types.
How to do it:
Select Generate Value Streams.
Enter your company's industry.
Under the Settings tab, you can choose an alternative Value Streams Workspace for your Value Stream. This would override the default workspace that is provided by the solution.
Under the Generate Asset tab, click Generate Value Streams.
AI uses your company and industry context to create a draft with 6–8 value stream stages.
All content is generated inside a Scenario, giving you a safe space to review and modify before publishing.
Click Open Scenario to view and publish the generated Value Stream.
All AI-generated elements are created in a Scenario — a version-controlled environment that lets you safely iterate, refine, and manage content.
You should now see your new Value Stream on the right side of your screen, under the Block Diagram tab. On the left-hand side, click the Merge-icon, then From Scenario to Mainline.
The next screen will show the Value Stream Stages you are about to publish to you workspace. Click Create selected components, then Create selected references.
You have now published your Value Stream to your workspace! Navigate back to the BVS Solution by clicking Ardoq Solutions on the left-hand side of the screen, to continue to the next step. You will be prompted that you are about to load your mainline and leave the scenario. Click Ok.
What it does: Provides a pre-structured flow of value-aligned stages, eliminating the complexity of starting from scratch.
3. Generate a Business Capability Map
Once your value stream is defined, it's time to map the capabilities needed to deliver that value.
Prerequisites:
A Value Stream (including stages) defined in the Value Streams workspace.
A Business Capabilities workspace from the Ardoq Solution Module that defines the metamodel for the Business Capability component types
How to do it:
Select Generate Business Capability Map.
Enter your company's industry.
Under the Settings tab, you can choose an alternative Business Capability Mapping workspace and Value Stream component for your Business Capability Map. This would override the default workspace and root component provided by the solution.
Under the Generate Asset tab, click Generate Business Capability Map.
AI creates a 3–4 level capability model aligned with your industry standards and the previously defined value stream.
Click Open Scenario to view and publish the generated Business Capability Map.
You should now see your new Business Capability Map on the right side of your screen, under the Block Diagram tab (increase the Degree of relationship to view the full Business Capability Map). On the left-hand side, click the Merge-icon, then From Scenario to Mainline.
Click Create selected components on the next screen to publish your Business Capability Map to you workspace.
Navigate back to the BVS Solution to continue to the final step.
What it does: Automates the creation of a hierarchical capability model to support planning, maturity assessments, and transformation initiatives.
4. Link Value Stream Stages to Capabilities
Establishing clear traceability between your value stream and business capability map is critical for aligning strategy with execution.
Prerequisites:
A Value Stream (including stages) defined in the Value Streams workspace.
A Business Capability model defined in the Business Capabilities workspace.
How to do it:
Select Link Business Capability Map.
Under the Settings tab, you can choose alternative Business Capability Mapping and Value Streams workspaces, and an alternative Value Stream component, for linking your Business Capability Map to your Value Stream. This would override the default workspace and root component provided by the solution.
Click Generate Links.
AI analyzes each value stream stage and connects it to the most relevant capabilities.
Click Open Scenario to inspect and modify these links within the Scenario.
Click the Merge-icon, then From Scenario to Mainline.
Click Create selected references on the next screen to publish your links between Business Capability Map and Value Stream Stages.
What it does: Builds a connected knowledge graph that shows which parts of the organization enable each stage of value delivery.
Note: If the Business Capability Map becomes too large or complex, the AI may not be able to link all capabilities properly due to request size limits, which can lead to some connections being missed. This is only an issue if you've expanded the generated map significantly.
Final Notes
With all connections in place, you now have a fully linked model that captures your organization's value proposition, value streams, and the capabilities that enable them. From here, you can refine, expand, or begin using the model to support planning, stakeholder engagement, and strategic decision-making.
These AI features are available exclusively through the BVS and BCM solutions. If you’re not using them yet, you’re missing the fastest way to bring AI into your architecture work.

Known Limitations
During the beta period customers will need paid access to Scenarios to perform the final merge. It is possible to use the functionality to generate value streams, capabilities, and references, but final merge to the mainline is limited to those with Scenarios access.
This limitation is being resolved before GA.
