What is this workspace template for?

This workspace is an example of how you could document your organization’s infrastructure, though obviously it’s generic and your own infrastructure may take a totally different form. The important thing is that your datastores connect to the data entities they use so you can identify where sensitive data is.

How to…

List all the components in your IT infrastructure:

  1. For this purpose, use the component types “Network zone”, “Server”, “Database” and “Table”.
  2. Map all the physical connections between these components by using the reference type “Connects to”.
  3. Map on which server each database is running on by using the reference type “Runs on”, taking care to be consistent when selecting the source- and the target component. The source component should always be of the type “Database”. The target component should always be of the type “Server”.

Where applicable, map which data entities are stored in each of the databases:

Use the reference type “”Stores”” for this purpose, taking care to be consistent when selecting the source- and the target component. The source component should always be of the type “Database”. The target component should always be of the type “Data entity”, which should be documented in its own master data workspace.
