What is Data Inventory?
Data Inventory provides a practical, intuitive way to access and manage enterprise architecture data within Ardoq. It offers a structured, tabular interface designed for efficient handling of large datasets, enabling direct data access while fully maintaining the powerful relationship capabilities of Ardoq's underlying graph database.
Why you will love it:
See and manage all your data in a familiar table format.
Filter, sort, and customize your view to focus on what matters.
Edit multiple components at once - no more repetitive clicking.
Watch your changes instantly update the graph view, so you always see the most accurate picture.
Handle larger datasets with improved performance - we’ve tuned it to keep things snappy even with large datasets.
Data Inventory Benefits
Data Inventory delivers significant improvements to how users work with enterprise architecture data:
Faster Navigation – Quickly access and manage all your data in one place, no matter in which place it lives in.
Streamlined Workflows – Move between finding, editing, visualizing, modeling, and reporting without switching between different parts of Ardoq.
Audit Confidence – Apply filters and generate reports instantly.
Data Security – Permission-aware access ensures sensitive data stays protected.
Scalable Performance – Efficiently manage hundreds of thousands of components.
Broader Adoption – Accessible to less-technical users, driving organizational engagement.
Core Features
Column configuration
You can set up your columns by choosing which ones to display, as well as sorting their order. Ardoq saves these preferences, so your view will be the same the next time you open the Inventory.
Display Reference Columns
References appear as columns in the table, labeled with their type and direction (e.g., ← Connects To ← or → Is Supported By →). Clicking a component in a reference cell opens its details in the Component Overview Page, allowing you to review information without leaving the Inventory.
Sorting and Filtering
Quickly find and organize the data you need by sorting and filtering directly in the Inventory table. These tools let you narrow your view and arrange information so you can focus on the most relevant components.
You can:
Sort by any column to create custom ordering.
Use default sorting by name if no other sort is applied.
Filter multiple columns at once.
Filter by any displayed property. Active filters appear as removable chips above the table, so you can see your criteria at a glance and adjust them easily.
Data Editing
Component creation
Add new components with proper workspace and type assignment
Single component editing
Make quick changes to individual components directly from the Inventory.
You can:
Double-click into a cell or select it and press Enter to begin editing.
Press Enter again to save your changes, or Esc to cancel.
See changes applied immediately to your data.
ℹ️ Note: There is currently no undo option for edits made in the Inventory table. Double-check your changes before saving.
Multiple components editing
Select multiple rows and edit them all at once to speed up updates across your data.
You can:
Copy and paste values directly within the Inventory table or from an external spreadsheet.
Drag a value from one cell down to other selected cells to quickly fill multiple rows.
Delete multiple values at once by selecting cells and pressing delete/backspace.
Use the confirmation dialog to review your changes before applying them. Once confirmed, there is no option to undo your changes.
ℹ️ Notes:
You can paste values into up to 100 rows at a time. For larger datasets, we recommend using the Excel importer.
Creation or duplication of multiple components is not currently supported (coming in future iterations).
Multi-editing of references is not currently supported (coming in future iterations).
If you multi-edit while filters are active, you may only be changing a subset of your data. Always review your filtered list before applying edits.
Merging Components
Combine two (or more) components into one to remove duplicates or consolidate data. Choose which data to keep from each component during the merge process.
ℹ️ Note: Merges are permanent - there is no undo once confirmed.
Editing References
Directly create, modify, or remove links between components from the inventory view, streamlining the management of relationships. You can:
Create or modify a reference by double clicking in the desired cell. You will see a selection of available components to link to. Your options are based on the defined relationships in your organization's metamodel.
You can delete an individual reference by clicking the “x” button on it. To delete multiple references for a single component at once, simply click the delete button on your keyboard.
ℹ️ Notes:
You can only connect components that have a defined relationship in your organization's metamodel.
If no relationship is defined for a given reference type and (source/target) component type, you will see "n/a" in that cell.
Error handling
Clear notification of failed edits with visual indicators.
Permission-aware
Respects workspace and field-level permissions.
Integration With the Rest of the Ardoq Application
Data Inventory is designed to work seamlessly with other Ardoq features:
Create Reports: Generate new reports based on your current inventory view, allowing you to save and monitor specific data subsets.
Visualize Selected Components: Instantly visualize components selected in your inventory to explore relationships and understand impacts through your preferred viewpoints.
Navigate to Component Details: Easily jump to individual component detail pages for in-depth information and broader context.
Access Audit Logs: Review the complete history of changes for selected components directly from the inventory, ensuring full transparency.
Understanding Data Inventory Permissions & Data Integrity
Ardoq Data Inventory strictly adheres to your existing Ardoq permission model. It does not grant any new or extended permissions to users.
This means:
If you cannot read a specific workspace, component, or field in Ardoq today, you will not see it in Data Inventory.
If you do not have write permissions for a specific component or field, you will not be able to edit it in Data Inventory.
All changes made through the Data Inventory are live modifications to your existing Ardoq data, and they fully respect all established workspace, component, and field-level permissions.

Upcoming Functionality: Shaping the Future of Data Inventory
We are continuously enhancing Data Inventory based on your valuable feedback. Here's a look at what’s coming next:
Bulk editing of large datasets: Select several components with the help of advanced queries at once and modify shared field values simultaneously, significantly streamlining updates across your inventory.
Improved filtering capabilities: Advanced filtering options, such as filtering by multiple criteria across different columns, and using operators like "contains," "starts with," or numerical ranges, for more precise and flexible views.
Visual hierarchy display for hierarchical component types: A new way to visualize parent-child relationships between components directly within the inventory, perhaps through an indented list or a tree-like structure, making complex hierarchies much more intuitive.
