Setting your language and regional formatting in Ardoq

Ardoq's UI is available in English and German. Set the default for your organization, or choose your own from your profile.

What's localized in Ardoq

Ardoq's user interface is available in English and German, and we're working on French. Admins choose a default language for the organization, and each person can pick their own language and regional formatting (dates, numbers, and currencies) from their profile. System notification emails go out in the recipient's chosen language.

Localization covers the Ardoq product UI and system emails. A few things stay in English on purpose. See what stays in English near the end of this article.

Available languages

  • English (default)

  • Deutsch (German)

  • Français (French, coming soon)

For admins: Setting your organization's default language

By default, your organization's UI language is English. When you change it, the UI switches to the new language for every user who hasn't set their own preference. Each user can override the default from their profile at any time.

To set it:

  1. Open Admin settings from the main navigation.

  2. Go to Organization settings.

  3. Find the Default language dropdown.

  4. Pick English or Deutsch.

  5. Save.

Note: Ardoq doesn't offer an organization-wide default for regional formatting (dates, numbers, currencies). Each person sets their own regional formatting from their profile, covered in the next section.

For everyone: setting your own language

Your personal language choice overrides whatever your admin set as the org default. The UI updates as soon as you save, so you don't need to refresh the page.

  1. Click your profile avatar in the top right and open your Profile.

  2. On the Profile tab, find the Language dropdown.

  3. Pick Use organization default, English, or Deutsch.

  4. Save.

Regional formatting (dates, numbers, currencies)

In Ardoq, Language and Regional format are two separate settings:

  • Language controls the text you read in the UI.

  • Regional format controls how Ardoq formats dates, numbers, and currencies.

You can mix them. For example, you can read the UI in German while seeing dates and numbers in British formatting. Pick whatever combination matches how you work.

To set your regional formatting:

  1. Open your Profile.

  2. Find the Regional format dropdown (it's a separate field from Language).

  3. Pick the region whose date and number conventions you want.

  4. A live preview appears under the dropdown, for example Date format: 21.05.2026 and Number format: 123456,789. Use it to confirm the format looks right.

  5. Save.

What Ardoq translates

Your Language and Regional format settings together control:

  • The product UI across all features, including workspaces, references, surveys, broadcasts, dashboards, perspectives, Viewpoints, and presentations (Language).

  • System notification emails such as invitations, broadcast notifications, survey emails, and password resets. Each email goes out in the recipient's chosen Language.

  • Date, number, and currency formatting (Regional format).

What stays in English

Our localization choices reflect who uses each part of the product. Business users in Contributor roles might not work in English day-to-day, so we translate every part of the UI they touch. Admin-focused content stays in English because the EA team members who use it typically work with English-language industry frameworks, training, and vendor documentation already.

A few things stay in English on purpose:

  • In-product support chat. Our support team works in English, so the chat widget stays in English to keep responses fast.

  • Knowledge base articles (the help site you're reading now). We write help content in English so you always see the most current version.

  • Marketing communication. We write product announcements, newsletters, and release notes in English.

  • Solutions and Bundle content. These are ready-made content packages (templates, sample components, and reference data) written in English. The Solutions UI itself is translated; the content inside the packages is not.

You may also notice that some Ardoq product names and Enterprise Architecture concepts stay in English even when the rest of the UI is in German, like Bundles (an Ardoq feature kept as a loanword) and Enterprise Architecture itself when it refers to the industry. We keep these terms consistent across languages so they match our documentation, training, and how the EA community talks about them.

If you spot UI text you'd expect to be translated but isn't, let us know through support, and we'll fix it.

Note on supporting additional languages
We're not planning languages beyond German and French right now. We may consider others in the future if we see a clear market need for it. We of course still welcome your feedback on which languages to support.
