Note: The Lucidchart integration is currently in beta testing. The Ardoq team is continuously improving the integration. If you have any feedback, input and/or suggestions, please don't hesitate with reaching out to your Customer Success Manager.

Overview

Ardoq's integration with Lucidchart aims to better capture architectural diagrams and other models of your organization that normally fall outside of typical Ardoq use cases.

In our first iteration, our goal is to allow users to link Ardoq components to Lucidchart documents. While maintaining higher-level diagrams in Ardoq, you can link lower-level diagrams like UML and solution architecture diagrams to maintain a connection to these documents from Ardoq.

You'll also be able to export components and references from Ardoq to Lucidchart in cases where you want to model new scenarios or to use Lucidchart tools to visualize your diagrams in different ways.

Notes

  • By default, all Lucidchart documents created by the Ardoq integration will be set to private. You'll need to manually change the sharing settings to expose the document to the rest of your organization.

  • Some features of the Lucidchart integration require third-party cookies, which are blocked by default on some browsers.

Connecting to Lucidchart

The first time you use a Lucidchart integration feature in Ardoq, you'll be presented with a dialog to connect your Ardoq account to your Lucidchart account.

The simplest way to connect is to go to any workspace, right-click on a component, and select Link Lucidchart document.

The dialog will explain the permissions required for the integration to work and will ask you to grant access for the integration.

Once access is granted, the integration will appear as a connected app within the Apps & Integrations panel in Lucidchart settings. You can also disconnect the Ardoq integration from Lucidchart in case you no longer want the Ardoq integration to have access to your documents.

Linking Documents

You can link Lucidchart documents to Ardoq components through the Pages view within a Workspace. Click the button to the right of the component and select Link Lucidchart document.

You'll be presented with the Lucidchart document picker without leaving Ardoq. You will have the option to create a new document and link it immediate or link an existing Lucidchart document.

Linked documents appear to the top-right corner of the component. Clicking the link will open the document inside the Lucidchart app. The document can also be unlinked from the component with the × button.

Permissions for Linked Lucidchart Documents

All users with access to components will be able to see the links to Lucidchart documents. However, access to the document itself will be based on your sharing settings for the Lucidchart document itself.

Exporting Components and References to Lucidchart

You can export Ardoq components and references to Lucidchart through our Viewpoints feature. Currently, only block diagrams from viewpoints are available for export.

Start by clicking Explore data from the Ardoq homepage:

Select a set of components and references that you want to visualize then open the dataset:

Click on the expanded menu and select Lucidchart document to open the export dialog:

Once the chart is created, you'll be able to copy the link or to open the document directly in Lucidchart.

The exported Lucidchart document will have the name of the saved viewpoint, if there is one; otherwise, it will default to Ardoq Export with a corresponding timestamp.
